Manchester Runs Past RIT, Maddi Smith Named to All-Tournament Team

BEREA, Ohio - The Manchester University women's basketball team played Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) during the consolation game of the BW Invitational on December 30. The Spartans ran past the Tigers 70-52. 

RIT snagged a four-point lead with 3:23 left to play in the opening quarter of Friday's game. The Spartans would answer, outscoring the Tigers 11-3 in the remainder of the first quarter to lead 14-7. The Spartans would hang-on to the lead throughout the remainder of the first half, taking the 29-23 lead at halftime. 

MU would extend their lead by 18 points thanks to a steal by Mia Shields (Arcadia, Ind., Hamilton Heights) and made layup by Ally Graber (Mooresville, Ind., Mooresville) in the fourth quarter. The Spartans outscored the Tigers 22-16 in the final quarter to secure the 70-52 victory. 

Hailee Kline (Huntington, Ind., Blackhawk Christian) and Maddi Smith (Kewanna, Ind., Caston) each had 12 points on the day for the Black and Gold. Abi Rosenkrans (Pendleton, Ind., Pendleton Heights) finished the day with a team-high 8 rebounds. Rosenkrans and Alyssa Pfeil (Goshen, Ind., Concord Community) also added 8 points each for MU. As a team, the Spartans shot 38.8% from the field, with 36 total points in the paint, and 64.7% from the free throw line. The Spartans outrebounded the Tigers 45-36 during Friday's contest. Manchester improves to 6-5 on the season with the win. 

Erin DiPaola led the Tigers with 16 points. Emma Waite added 12 points for RIT while Kaitlyn Bockelman and Abigail Smith each chipped in a team-high 5 rebounds during Friday's contest. As a team, the Tigers shot 34.5% from two-point range and 66.7% from the free throw line. RIT fell to 4-4 on the year with the loss. 

Following Friday's contest, an All-Tournament Team was named for the 2022 BW Invitational. Maddi Smith earned All-Tournament honors for Manchester University. 

The Manchester women's basketball team will kick-off the new year on the road at rival Anderson University on January 4th. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
