CINCINNATI, Ohio – An 11-2 run to start the 4
th quarter by host Mt. St. Joseph helped guide the Lions to a 66-52 victory over Manchester University in women's basketball action on Saturday February 5.
The Spartans and Lions remained in a nip and tuck affair through most of the Saturday's contest. Manchester trailed by just a point entering the final 10 minutes of action, however, an 11-2 surge by the Lions gave them some cushion down the stretch to pull away from the Spartans.
Senior
Miranda Bieghler (Plainfield, Ind./South Putnam) led Manchester with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Eva Bazzoni (Wabash, Ind./North Manchester) added 14 points and seven rebounds while
Macy Miller (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll) added 12 points and five rebounds.
Hannah Lindsey (Speedway, Ind./Speedway grabbed nine rebounds on Saturday.
The Spartans finished shooting 20-68 (29.4 percent) against the Lions. Manchester was limited to 24.2 percent (8-33) shooting from three-point territory.
The Lions shot 37.5 percent (24-64) in Saturday's matchup. MSJ finished 9-36 from three-point territory. Chloe Jansen led MSJ with 29 points.
Manchester (7-10, 4-6 HCAC)) will have a quick turnaround ahead of its next contest. The Spartans will travel to Defiance College on Monday February 7 at 7:30 p.m. Monday's contest is a makeup from Wednesday's weather (February 3) postponement.
Mount St. Joseph improved to 7-11, 4-7 HCAC with the win.
