Spartans Battle Bulldogs on Wednesday Afternoon

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Manchester University baseball team got to enjoy a unique experience on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans battled NCAA Division I Butler University at Bulldog Park in the team's first non-conference contest against a Division I opponent since 2019.

Manchester and Butler remained tied through four and a half innings of action before the Bulldogs pulled away for a 5-2 victory. A 2-run home run in the bottom of the 7th inning provided Butler with some insurance runs to hang on for the narrow victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Spartan Stats:
  • First-year Gavin Gleason (Brookston, Ind./Delphi Community) got the Spartans on the board in the top of the 2nd inning following a sac fly to right field that scored fellow first-year Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind./Norwell).
  • Austin Snider, Griffin Garwood, Ryan Mueller, and Paul Barrow each recorded a hit against the Bulldogs.
  • The Manchester pitching staff did a solid job of limiting the Butler offense to five runs on 11 hits. Austin Kresl (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) and Jared Holley (Wabash, Ind./Wabash) both struck out a pair on Wednesday.

  • Manchester will gear up for a four-game series this weekend against Kalamazoo College.
