SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Manchester University women's tennis team broke into the win column for the first time this year on Saturday afternoon after earning a 5-1 win over Grace Christian University.
The Spartans traveled to South Bend where they took on both Bethel (Ind.) and Grace Christian. The Black & Gold ended their trip with an exciting 5-1 triumph over the Tigers.
The no. 3 doubles duo of Avin Demaso (South Bend, Ind./Riley) and Mallory Sands (Gas City, Ind./Mississinewa) picked up a 6-3 victory to begin Saturday's match.
Singles action saw the Spartans earn five key match points to secure their first win of the season and their first win since September 21, 2019.
Evelyn Minton (Clarksville, Ind./Jeffersonville) earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at the no. 1 position. Anna Hollingsworth (New Castle, Ind./Blue River Valley) added a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the no. 3 position. At the no. 4 flight, Mallory Sands battled to a thrilling three-set win over Grace's Olivia Rachoy, 4-6, 6-1, 12-10.
Bella Carillo (Wabash, Ind./Wabash) earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at the n. 5 singles slot, while
Avin Demaso rounded out singles action with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the no. 6 position
