ANDERSON, Ind. – The Manchester University softball team returned to the win column after splitting a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at rival Anderson University on Tuesday April 12.
Manchester took the opening game of the day by a final score of 4-1. The Ravens managed to pick up a walk-off 3-2 win in the second game of the afternoon to earn a split of Tuesday's doubleheader.
Spartan Stats
- Manchester led for the entirety of the opening game on Tuesday afternoon. The Black & Gold struck for a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning as senior Lizzie Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) doubled home both Izzy Dittmar (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community) and Brook Reaves (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo).
- Anderson would respond with a run of its own in the home half of the opening inning.
- The Spartans would then add single runs in the top of the 3rd and 6th innings, respectively.
- In the top of the 3rd, Kodi Douglass (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) hit an RBI single that scored Julianne Gosnell (Amboy, Ind./Oak Hill).
- In the top of the 6th inning, Delayne Sanchez (Osceola, Ind./Penn) also connected on an RBI single.
- In Tuesday's opener, both Sanchez and Izzy Dittmar collected two hits.
- First-year Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) improved to 5-2 in the pitcher's circle this season after an outstanding performance. Karr allowed just one run while scattering seven hits.
- In the second game of the afternoon, the Spartans scored both of their runs in the top of the 6th inning. Kodi Douglass got Manchester on the scoreboard after hitting a sac fly to right. Lizzie Smith would then tie the game at 2 after hitting an RBI single to center.
- The Ravens would go on to eke out a 3-2 win after scoring the game-winning run in the home half of the 7th inning following an error in the field by the Spartans.
