Baseball Edged in Hard-Fought Doubleheader Against Franklin

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Manchester University baseball team was edged in a hard-fought doubleheader against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Franklin College on Saturday April 16.

The host Grizzlies rallied for a 9-8 walk-off win in 10 innings in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader and rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to win 6-4 in Game 2.

Spartan Stats

  • Senior Carter Hooks (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) had the strikeout pitch working in the opening game of the day as he punched out 13 Grizzlies – a new career-high. In his seven innings on the mound, Hooks allowed six runs on six hits.
  • Offensively in the opener, Harrison Pittsford (Ellettsville, Ind./Edgewood) connected on his first collegiate grand slam in the 7th inning.
  • Both Aidan Stevens (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer Central) and Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) collected two hits while driving in a run. Hanes would score three times while Stevens would touch home plate twice.
  • The Franklin offense connected on four long balls in the opener – including a pair of home runs by Logan Demkovich.
  • The Grizzlies completed their comeback in the 10th inning with a two-run single by Tyler Lipscomb.
  • Manchester staked itself out to an early 3-0 lead in Game 2 following back-to-back doubles by Harrison Pittsford and Rocco Hanes and an RBI single by Zach Thomas (Lowell, Ind./Lowell).
  • Franklin would go on to score the next six runs and took a three-run lead in the bottom of the 8th following home runs by Tyler Lipscomb and Matt Earley.
  • The Black & Gold would not go down without a fight as Rocco Hanes would hit an RBI single in the 9th to move the score to 6-4.
  • Hanes and Pittsford would both collect two hits in the second game of the day. Cole Filson (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) led Manchester with three hits in Game 2.

Up Next:

  • Manchester will travel to Defiance College on Tuesday April 19 for a doubleheader that is set to begin at 1 pm.
