Softball Concludes Regular Season with Doubleheader at MSJ

CINCINNATI, Ohio – In an effort to beat the forecasted weather for this weekend, the Manchester University softball team bumped up its final regular season doubleheader to Thursday April 28.

The Black & Gold concluded its season against the Lions of Mt. St. Joseph University. The Lions swept Thursday's final Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader by final scores of 9-1 and 2-1.

Spartan Stats

  • Manchester maintained a 1-0 lead in the first game of the evening until the Lions broke through for a pair of runs in the 5th and seven runs in the 6th.
  • The Spartans were staked out to their early lead after an RBI single to center by Kyla Drake (Portland, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia).
  • Morgan Michael (Quincy, Mich./Quincy) also doubled for Manchester in the opener.
  • In the second game of the night of the Lions narrowly edged the Spartans by a final score of 2-1.
  • Manchester took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning following a Lizzie Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) RBI single.
  • Mount St. Joseph would answer with single runs in the home half of the 3rd and 4th innings.
The Black & Gold conclude its season with a record of 12-26, 3-13 HCAC. Mt. St. Joseph improved to 28-7, 12-2 HCAC. The Lions will face Hanover College tomorrow afternoon before playing in next weekend's HCAC Tournament.
