Spartans Open Conference Play with a Victory

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Spartan Women's soccer team opened up HCAC play this afternoon with a match against Defiance at Good Field. The Spartans had a strong offensive showing, beating the Yellow Jackets 7-0. 

The Spartan offense was firing on all cylinders amassing 25 shots on the evening, 18 of which were on goal. Senior Jayden Murray (Delphi, Ind., Rossville) and first-year Grace Papazoglou (Commack, NY., Commack) led the Black & Gold with a brace each. Teammates Elaina Halferty (Columbia City, Ind., Eagle Tech Academy), Chaelinn Hutchins (Angola, Ind., Angola), and Ceah Campbell (Tipton, Ind., Tipton) all scored goals in the match. Hutchins and Campbell's goals were their first in their Manchester career. 

Manchester's defense played a solid 90 minute shift earning the clean sheet and not allowing a shot on goal.

The Spartans will look to build off the impressive performance this weekend as they host the Hanover Panthers. Kickoff from Good Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
