Manchester Volleyball Falls in Home Opener

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester Spartans hosted the Albion College Britons last night in the 2022 home opener. 

The Black & Gold suffered a straight-set loss of 3-0 against Albion. The Britons pushed past Manchester by set scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-11. Despite the loss, the Spartans gave a great effort in each set. 

In set two, Manchester rallied from behind 23-16, to decrease Albion's lead to 23-20. Strong defense and offense displayed by the Spartans is what made the game more competitive by the end of the set, making the score 25-20.  

Leading the team in kills was Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport)) with 7, who increased the momentum for the Spartans with a striking kill in the third set.  Emma Bault (Spencer, Ind./Owen Valley) had major defensive plays against the Britons, that kept the Spartans in the game. Avery Ball (Decatur, Ind., Belmont), Helaina Walters (Marion, Ind., Eastbrook), and Jessica Tarr (Fort Wayne, Ind., Snider) all contributed defensively by leading the team in digs. Erika Kramer (Greensburg, Ind., North Decatur) posted a .300 hitting average against Albion, which led the team and chipped in with a block.  

Manchester moved to 3-2 on the season. The Spartans are scheduled to travel on the road Friday to compete in the Purple and White Invitational in Alliance, Ohio. Manchester will face Muskingum University on September 9th, with a 6:30 pm match start time.
