Football Falls to Panthers

HANOVER, Ind. - The Manchester football team fell to the Hanover College Panthers 34-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday, October 14. 

Hanover established control early, putting seven on the scoreboard with 10:03 on the clock in the first quarter. The Panthers extended their lead to 14-0 with 10:01 on the clock in the second quarter. Hanover would score seven more to close out the second quarter. The score was 21-0 in favor of the Panthers at halftime. 

The Panthers had an 80-yard kickoff return to open the third quarter of Saturday's contest. Hanover would miss the point-after attempt to bring the score to 27-0. Hanover scored once more in the fourth quarter to secure the 34-0 win. 

The Panthers held a 407-230 advantage in total offense on Saturday. 

Trevor O'Brien II (Vero Beach, Fla., Vero Beach) led the Manchester quarterbacks with 95 passing yards Lavar Lesure (Mt. Vernon, Ill., Wheeler (Ga.)) had 47 receiving yards on five receptions, while Josiah Ansorena-Smith (Ludowici, Ga., Long County) led with 66 rushing yards on 14 carries. 

Defensively, the Black and Gold was led by Devontay Moore (Indianapolis, Ind., North Central) with eight total tackles, including five solo tackles. Jaylen Grimes (Goulds, Fla., Christopher Columbus) added five total tackles and two sacks for a total loss of 18 yards. Javion Davis (Marion, Ind., Marion) had four total tackles and an interception.

Manchester fell to 0-6, 0-3 HCAC. Hanover improved to 5-1, 2-1. Up next, the Spartans will travel to Bluffton, Ohio to take on the Beavers of Bluffton College on Saturday, October 21. Kickoff is set 1:30 p.m.
