NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester men's soccer team clinched its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) men's soccer regular season championship since 2003 with a hard fought 1-1 draw against Bluffton University on Wednesday, October 25.
Manchester completes its first undefeated season in program history, finishing the regular season with a 10-0-7 record and a 6-0-3 mark in conference play. The Spartans also earn the No. 1 seed for the HCAC Men's Soccer Tournament next week and will host the semifinal round on Wednesday, November 1.Â
The Spartans and Beavers ended the first half of Wednesday night's match in a scoreless draw. Bluffton would break the tie in the 46th minute, but the Black and Gold would answer with a goal by senior forward Cory Mitchell (Maitland, Fla., Winter Park), assisted by Noah Black (Swayzee, Ind., Mississinewa). Neither team was able to score again during Wednesday night's match, resulting in a 1-1 draw at Spartan Stadium.Â
As a team, the Spartans outsot the Beavers 13-2. Harley Kruschwitz (North Manchester, Ind., Manchester) and Mitchell led Manchester with five shots apiece on Wednesday. Kruschwitz had three shots on goal, while Mitchell registered two shots on goal for MU.
Manchester will host the HCAC Semifinal Round at Spartan Stadium on Wednesday, Nov. 1. The championship match will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4Â at the site of the best remaining seed after Wednesday's semifinal matches.
