NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester University men's basketball team powered past the visiting Mountaineers of
Berea College in their last home contest before the new year on Saturday, December 16. The Spartans took Saturday night's game by a final score of 102-78.
Bryant Smith (West Lafayette, Ind., Harrison) and
Zach Sawyer (Columbus, Ohio, Bishop Watterson) led the Spartans to triple digits on Saturday.
Smith finished with 52 points, which ranks second in points scored in a single game in school history. The junior guard shot 11-18 from beyond the three-point arc and went a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line.
Sawyer collected his first career triple-double with an impressive 26 points, 18 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Sawyer
shot 11-16 from the floor and had a team-high six steals on Saturday evening.
As a team, Manchester shot 52.4% (33-63) and 51.5% (17-33) from three-point range. The Spartans also pulled down 40 rebounds and had 22 assists.
Berea shot 36.1% (26-72) and 21.4% from three-point range. Riley Bryce led
Berea with 19 points and nine rebounds, followed by Trey Minter with 15 points and four steals. The Mountaineers fall to 4-5 overall on the season.
Up next, the Black and Gold will face Stevenson University in the first round of the
Wittenberg Holiday Classic on December 19 in Springfield, Ohio.
