Manchester Sweep Berea; Hanes' Walk-Off Single Wins Game Two for the Spartans

WESTFIELD, Ind. - The Manchester baseball team swept the Berea Mountaineers in a double-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 11. The Spartans and Mountaineers were scheduled to play two seven-inning games at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. 

SPARTAN STATS
    Game one 
  • The Spartans offense was hard to slow down, as Manchester scored 11 of their 13 runs in two innings of game one of Saturday's doubleheader. 
  • Aidan Stevens (Rensselaer, Ind., Rensselaer Central) went 3-4 from the plate, hitting one double and a triple for the Black and Gold. 
  • Mitchell Baker (Plainfield, Ind., Plainfield) went 2-2 from the plate, bringing in two RBI and collecting one stolen base. 
  • Zach White (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) pitched six innings for the Spartans, allowing one earned run, one walk, and three hits. 
    Game two 
  • Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) drove in the game winning run in the 8th inning for MU, scoring Jared Holley (Wabash, Ind., Wabash) on a single to right-center. Hanes went 4-8 from the plate during Saturday's doubleheader. 
  • Zach White drove in Manchester's first run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher, scoring Aidan Stevens
  • Ty Layson (Fort Wayne, Ind. , Homestead) pitched seven complete innings for the Black and Gold, striking out seven batters and allowing one walk. 
  • Arturo Casas (Pendleton, Ind., Pendleton Heights) was the winning pitcher during game two, shutting down the Mountaineers in the top of the eighth inning.

UP NEXT 
  • The Spartans will host Heidelberg for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 18. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Gratz Field.
