Spartans Defeat Quakers on Saturday

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Spartan Men's tennis team took on the Earlham Quakers on Saturday, March 25 on the Quakers' home courts. Manchester came away from the match with a 6-3 victory giving the men's team its first conference win of the season.

The Spartans took both no. 2 and 3 doubles to start the match. Brennan Beachy (Goshen, Ind., Westview) and Braydon Hoggatt (Union City, Ind., Union City) at no. 2 doubles took their match 8-4 over Robert Lemon and Haider Ali. Manchester won the no. 3 position by default.

In singles play, Beachy took the no. 1 singles match to three sets before suffering a narrow defeat to Sarthak Sharma with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. At no. 2 singles, Omar Lemus (Portage, Ind., Portage) fell to his opponent 6-0, 6-3. Hoggett continued his success on the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win at no. 3 singles. Aiden Richardson (Knightstown, Knightstown) followed suit at no. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. At no. 5 singles, Ryan Nastav (Lebanon, Ind., Lebanon) defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-0. The Spartans took the no. 6 singles position by default.

After Saturday's win over Earlham, the Spartans improve to 2-10 overall, 1-2 HCAC.

Up next, the Spartans will take on the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers on Saturday, April 1 at 10:00 a.m. on the MU tennis courts.
