Spartan Softball Sweeps Anderson

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester University softball team earned a sweep of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Anderson University on Wednesday, April 26. 
The Spartans improve to 19-13 overall, 7-3 in conference play following 3-1 and 9-3 victories over the Ravens. 

SPARTAN STATS
  • Anderson got on the scoreboard first, scoring an unearned run in the top half of the second inning of the opening game on Wednesday. Manchester would answer, tying the score at one run a piece following an RBI single by first-year Alee Eaker (Lowell, Ind., Lowell). Eaker would also drive in the game-winning run with a two RBI single in the fifth inning to give Manchester the 3-1 victory. 
  • On the day, Eaker went 3-7 at the plate with five RBI. 
  • After scoring two runs apiece in the first inning, the Spartans would score five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to give MU the 6-2 lead in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader. An RBI by Faith Hittle (Cicero, Ind. , Hamilton Heights ) and a two RBI single by Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) highlighted the fifth inning for Manchester. 
  • MU would score two more runs in the sixth inning in route to a 9-3 victory and doubleheader sweep. 
  • Kaitlyn Carr  earned her 10th and 11th wins of the season on the mound for the Spartans. Carr scattered nine hits, allowing just two walks with seven strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched. 

UP NEXT 
  • Manchester softball will travel to Bluffton University to take on the Beavers in another HCAC doubleheader on Thursday, April 27. 
  • First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
