Spartans Finish 2023 Season in Day Two of HCAC Tournament

KOKOMO, Ind. - The Manchester University baseball team concluded the 2023 season at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Baseball Tournament on Friday, May 12 in Kokomo, Ind. 

#6 Manchester faced #4 Rose-Hulman in the second elimination game of the tournament, falling 10-4 to the Fightin' Engineers.

  • Manchester took a 4-0 lead to begin Friday afternoon's game. Two RBI singles by Joel Kennedy (Mooreland, Ind. , Monroe Central ) and Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) highlighted the first four innings for the Spartans. Rose-Hulman would rally in the fifth inning to take a two-run lead. The Fightin' Engineers would score four more runs before the ninth inning to take the game by a final score of 10-4. 
  • Hanes went 2-3 at the plate for the Spartans, scoring one run with one RBI. Hanes also threw 5.2 innings on the mound for MU, giving up eight hits with four strikeouts. 
  • Aidan Stevens (Rensselaer, Ind., Rensselaer Central lead the Spartans with two stolen bases and two runs scored on Friday.
Manchester baseball returned to the HCAC Tournament for the first time since the 2021 season, finishing the 2023 season with an overall record of 22-20 and 12-10 in HCAC play. The 2023 team is tied for second all-time in Manchester history with 45 home runs in a single season. The Spartans are also ranked fifth all-time in doubles with 104 and fifth all-time in struck out batters with 263 as a team this season. Aidan Stevens is tied for second in Manchester history in number of times hit by pitch in a single season with 21. Sophomore Rocco Hanes remains tied for ninth in doubles hit in a single season in school history with 18. Harrison Pittsford (Ellettsville, Ind., Edgewood) hit 14 home runs this season, putting him tied for third all-time for home runs in a single season and Fifth-year Carter Hooks (Rochester, Ind., Rochester) finishes his Black and Gold career with 223 total strikeouts, putting him third all-time in school history.
