CARMEL, Ind. - Four Spartans were named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Track and Field "Athletes of the Week," the league office announced on Monday, May 22. 

HCAC 2023 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Notebook, Week 8 

The Spartans concluded the 2023 outdoor season at the Mount Union Last Chance Qualifier last Thursday. Manchester senior Gabe Melvin (Jacksonville, Fla., Atlantic Coast) ran a new personal best in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 10.84 seconds. Melvin's time ties the second-best time in Manchester school history.

Ben Villafuerte (Angola, Ind., Angola) also competed last Thursday in shot put, finishing the event in third place with a mark of 15.74m.  

Brooke Bouwens (Lake Odessa, Mich., Lakewood) competed in the 400m hurdles at the Mount Union Chance Last Qualifier last week, where she finished in a time of 1:05.12 for fourth place. 

Sophomore thrower Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) took second place in the discus at Thursday's last chance qualifier with distance of 40.66m. Camp also took second in the shot put with a mark of 13.72m.
