Spartans Split HCAC Doubleheader Against Franklin in Regular Season Finale

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Spartans concluded the regular season with an HCAC doubleheader at Franklin College on Saturday, May 6. 

The Spartans and Grizzlies split Saturday's doubleheader. The Black and Gold won game one 3-2. Franklin then took game two by a final score of 5-4.

SPARTAN STATS 
  • The Spartans scored two runs to open game one of Saturday's doubleheader following two RBI singles by Manchester first-year Sabrina Leonard (Fillmore, Ind. , South Putnam) and Abby Eberhardt (Shelbyville, Ind. , Triton Central). Tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning, Leonard would drive in one more run with a single to second base to give Manchester the 3-2 victory.
  • In game one, Leonard went 3-4 from the plate with two RBI. 
  • Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) held the Franklin Grizzlies to six hits with no earned runs, one walk, and one strikeout in a complete seven innings of work on the mound in game one for the Black and Gold.
  • The Grizzlies took a 5-0 lead after the first three innings of game two. Erin Singleton (Brownstown, Ind. , Brownstown Central) would drive in Manchester's first run of game two following an RBI double to left field to score Lainey Bonser (Muncie, Ind., Delta). The Spartans would try to rally, scoring three more runs in the top half of the seventh inning to cut Franklin's lead to one run, but the Grizzlies would hang on to take game two by a final score of 5-4. 
  • On the day, Eberhardt went 3-7 from the plate with an extra base hit and three RBI.
