CLERMONT, Fla. - The Manchester University softball team concluded a strong week of play in Florida over Spring Break.
Returning to Florida for the Spring Games, the Black & Gold collected four victories in nine games. The Spartans' 10th and final game scheduled for Friday, March 22 was canceled due to weather.
Manchester dropped their opening games against Tufts University and Bowdoin College on Sunday, March 17. The Jumbos took the first game of the day by a final score of 7-2, while the Polar Bears edged out the Spartans 6-2.
On Monday, March 20, Manchester faced Lawrence University (Wisconsin) and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Spartans bounced back to take their third game of the week against Lawrence 6-3 before falling to Wisconsin-Stevens Point 5-3.
The Black and Gold earned two wins on Tuesday, defeating the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 13-5 and Keuka College by a final score of 6-4.
Following an off day on Wednesday, the Spartans suffered a narrow defeat to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 5-1 in their first matchup of the day on Thursday, March 21. Manchester earned their fourth win of the week against William Paterson University. The Spartans downed the Pioneers 3-1. Due to projected weather forecasts, the Black and Gold's game against SUNY College at Old Westbury was moved up to Thursday night, where the Spartans and Panthers played a close game under the lights. After being tied 7-7 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Old Westbury would put a run on the board to narrowly defeat Manchester 8-7.
The Spartans (8-4) will return to Indiana this week as they travel to Adrian College for a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, March 25 before hosting Albion College on March 27. The Spartans will open conference play with a home doubleheader against Hanover College on Saturday, March 30.
