Kennedy, Hanes and Garwood Guide Spartans to 10-8 Win Against Hope

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester baseball team defeated visiting Hope College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 27.

The Black and Gold earned a 10-8 win against the Flying Dutchmen. 

SPARTAN STATS
  • After Hope took an early 4-0 lead in the 1st inning of Wednesday's contest, junior Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) hit a three-run homerun to left field to bring the Spartans within one run in the bottom of the 1st inning.
  • Joel Kennedy (Mooreland, Ind., Monroe Central) followed with another three-run homerun in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 6-4 lead.
  • Griffin Garwood (Fishers, Ind., Mt. Vernon) hit the Spartan's third homerun of the day in the 8th inning to extend Manchester's lead to 10-7. Garwood led the Black and Gold offensively, going 3-4 from the plate.
  • Manchester would hold Hope to one run in the top of the 9th inning to secure the 10-8 victory. 
  • Jared Holley (Wabash, Ind., Wabash), Hunter Aker (South Bend, Ind., Clay), Arturo Casas (Pendleton, Ind., Pendleton Heights), and Max Herring (Hammond, Ind., Highland) all combined for seven strikeouts on the mound for the Spartans on Wednesday night. Herring came in for relief, holding Hope to no hits and no runs in 2.0 innings.

  • The Manchester baseball team has adjusted their weekend schedule due to projected weather forecasts. Friday's single Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) game against Franklin College will now be a doubleheader against the Grizzlies with a 1:00 p.m. start time. 
  • Saturday will now be a single game against the Grizzlies starting at noon.
