Lexington, KY - The Manchester Spartans Softball Team took on Defiance College in the first round of the HCAC Championships. The Spartans took the victory, beating the Yellow Jackets, 6-3! With this win the Spartans move into the Winner's Bracket of the tournament.

Manchester 6, Defiance 3

• Defiance got the game started strong putting up three runs in the top of the 1st.
• The Spartans rally started in the second when the Yellow Jackets walked in a Spartan run, getting Manchester on the board.
• In the top of the 4th the Spartans would tie up the game thanks to a couple of RBI knocks coming from Sabrina Leonard (Fillmore, Ind., South Putnam) and Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton), making the game 3-3.
• The Spartan offense stayed hot in the 5th, Izzy Dittmar (Warsaw, Ind., Warsaw Community) scored on a passed ball giving the Spartans their first lead of the game.
• Erin Singleton (Brownstown, Ind. , Brownstown Central ) would then reach 1B on a fielders choice that brought in another run. Singleton would go on to score herself thanks to another RBI from Leonard.
• The Spartans would hold on to the 6-3 lead until the end and take Game one of the HCAC tournament. 
• Lizzy Willis (Yorktown, Ind., Yorktown) got the win with a dominant pitching performance and the Spartans combined for 9 hits.
