Spartans Travel to the Windy City for Non Conference Match Up

Chicago, IL. - The Manchester Spartans Football team traveled to Chicago, IL. to take on Concordia University Chicago in their second match up of the season.

Manchester fell in a close match up 28-27.

The Spartans offense came to play on Saturday, but it was First Year kicker Diego Moguel (Frankfort, Ind.) who got things started with an 18 yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. CUC responded with a touchdown to take the lead 7-3. Manchester would close out the half with another Moguel field goal to shorten CUC's lead to 7-6.

Concorida came out in the second half hot scoring two touchdowns in the 3rd quarter to take a 21-6 lead, however Manchester did not back down. Duriel Moss Jr. (Homestead, Fla., Christopher Columbus) caught a seven yard touchdown pass from Andrew Romero (Phoenix, AZ, Trevor G Browne.) and only three minutes later, first year James Lewis (Bloomfield, Ind., Eastern Greene) had his breakout run of 60 yards for the Spartans second touchdown of the day. 

With six minutes left in the game, Moss Jr. caught his second touchdown of the game, this time of 22 yards to give the Spartans their first lead since the 2nd quarter. CUC would get the ball and drive down the field with one minute remaining to take the lead and would hold on to win 28-27.

The Spartans offense finished with 486 yards on offense, including first year James Lewis who finished with 266 all purpose yards and one touchdown, and first year quarterback Andrew Romero finished with 115 yards and two touchdowns.Nathan Contreras (Campbellsville, KY) had the only turnover of the day with an interception in the 4th.
