North Manchester, Ind. - The Manchester University Men's Basketball team competed in two games over winter break, including a game against the reigning national champions, Trine.
Manchester fell in both games, including a loss in HCAC play.
Manchester 37, #4 Trine 58
The Spartans took on the #4 team in the country and reigning national champions in Trine University on December 30. The Spartans defense kept the game close in the first half, holding Trine to just 23 points and only being down three at the break. Trine got things started in the 2nd half and did not stop as the Thunder would score 35 to finish out the game.
Bryant Smith (West Lafayette, Ind., Harrison) led the Spartans in scoring with 13 while
Logan Brace (Fremont, Ind., Fremont) led the boards, grabbing 7 rebounds for the Spartans.
Manchester 71, MSJ 75
Manchester resumed HCAC play on the road against Mount St. Joseph this past Saturday. After a back and forth first 10 minutes, the Lions took the lead and did not look back as they would lead the rest of the game, the Spartans made a late push in the 2nd half but it was not enough to overcome the difference made by MSJ.
Ladarius Wallace (Jeff. Ind., Rock Creek Community Academy) led the way in scoring finishing with 14 points and a 75% three point percentage.
Ty Lynas (Crawfordsville, Ind., Crawfordsville) and
Zach Sawyer (Columbus, Ohio, Bishop Watterson) both finished with 12 points a piece and the Spartans drop their fourth HCAC contest.
Manchester will travel to Franklin College on January 8th for their next match up.
