Marietta, Ohio - Manchester Men's Basketball traveled to compete in the, Marietta College hosted, Shrine Tournament this weekend. The Spartans couldn't break through this weekend, losing to both Cal Lutheran in the first round on Friday and later La Roche on Saturday.
Game One:
Manchester put together one of its best offensive performances of the season but couldn't keep pace with Cal Lutheran's hot shooting in a 107–93 defeat at the Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta, Ohio. The Spartans came out aggressive and confident, scoring 52 first-half points and matching the Kingsmen early behind strong perimeter shooting and steady guard play. Even as Cal Lutheran built a lead through a flurry of three-pointers, Manchester continued to respond, keeping the margin within reach throughout much of the night.
Ty Lynas led the Spartans with 26 points and 8 rebounds, consistently finding lanes to the basket and generating second-chance looks on the offensive glass.
Ladarius Wallace helped fuel Manchester's early surge with five made threes and 19 points, while
Max Robertson added 17 points and knocked down key shots to keep momentum alive during CLU runs. Clay McCorckle guided the offense with 13 points and 8 assists, and
Logan Brace contributed toughness in the paint on both ends.
Manchester shot efficiently from the field and totaled 13 made threes, showing poise and rhythm throughout the contest. However, Cal Lutheran's exceptional perimeter shooting—especially in the first half—and a large scoring advantage from its bench proved to be the difference. The Spartans also struggled with timely turnovers, which CLU converted into quick points in transition.
Game Two:
Manchester put together a determined effort on Saturday night but came up short against La Roche in an 87–74 matchup at Ban Johnson Arena. The Spartans opened the game strong, knocking down early shots and controlling the offensive glass to build several brief leads. Their energy on the perimeter and steady execution in transition helped them stay in front during the early sequences, but La Roche's consistent inside scoring gradually shifted momentum as the half progressed.
Despite trailing 45–38 at halftime, Manchester stayed within striking distance throughout. The Spartans leaned on a balanced offensive attack, highlighted by
Max Robertson's double-double performance, strong drives and perimeter shooting from
Ty Lynas, and timely baskets from
Ladarius Wallace and Clay McCorckle.
Chris Hardy provided an efficient spark off the bench, while
Logan Brace contributed on the boards and as a facilitator in the half court.
Manchester generated 20 second-chance points and produced steady interior scoring of its own, but La Roche's efficiency in the paint—finishing with 52 points inside and shooting over 60 percent from the floor—ultimately made the difference. Whenever the Spartans threatened to close the gap, the Redhawks answered with key baskets around the rim to hold off Manchester's push.
Though the result didn't fall their way, the Spartans showed improved rebounding, balanced scoring, and stretches of strong defensive pressure. The performance reflects progress across the lineup and offers several positives for Manchester to build on heading into the next contest.
Ty Lynas' standout performance in both games this weekend earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
