Spartans Start Myrtle Beach Trip Against #11 CNU

Myrte Beach, SC - The Manchester Spartans Baseball team has made its annual trip to Myrtle Beach, SC to take place is the Ripken Classic. 

The Spartans started off game one with #11 Christopher Newport University.

Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) drove in four on two hits, but Spring 2025 Manchester Spartan fell to Christopher Newport University 12-11 on Saturday. Despite the loss, Spring 2025 The Spartans collected 11 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Christopher Newport university had 13 hits on the way to victory.

Manchester jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Vian Mariani (South Bend, Ind., John Adams)singled, scoring one run, Gavin Gleason (Brookston, Ind., Delphi Community) drew a walk, scoring one run, and Max Horner (Goshen, Ind., Northridge) hit a grand slam to right field, his first of his career. 

Christopher Newport University scored five runs on two hits in the top of the eighth inning, and took the lead in the top of the ninth.

Hanes stepped on the hill first for Manchester. The starter surrendered eight hits and six runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking three. 

The Spartans amassed 11 hits in the game. Number seven hitter, Mariani, showed the depth of the Manchester Spartan's lineup, by leading them with three hits in five at bats. Horner and Gleason each collected multiple hits and the Black & Gold turned one double play in the game.


Manchsester will take on Univerisity of Pittsburgh-Bradford in a double header on Sunday.
