Franklin, Ind. - The Manchester University Softball team traveled to Franklin College this past Sunday for a HCAC Doubleheader.
The Spartans put up 12 runs in Game One to take the first game of the day, but fell in Game Two in six innings.
Game One Manchester 12, Franklin 10
Lizzy Willis (Yorktown, Ind., Yorktown) collected three hits in four at bats, as Manchester University defeated Franklin College 12-10 on Sunday. Willis doubled in the second inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the fourth inning.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Manchester University collected 13 hits and Franklin College 17 in the high-scoring affair. Franklin College opened the scoring in the first after a single scored one run.
The Spartans jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after
Alee Eaker (Lowell, Ind., Lowell) homered to left field,
Lexi Goodman (Poplar, Ill., North Boone) doubled to left field, Willis doubled down the left field line, and
Kendal Rider (Otterbein, Ind., Lafayette Central Catholic) doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Franklin College jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second when a ground out, scored one run, #18 singled, scoring one run, and #10 doubled, scoring two runs.
The Spartans took the lead, 6-5, in the top of the fourth thanks to doubles by Rider, and
Brionna Egold (Greencastle, Ind., South Putnam). Franklin College took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after #16 singled to center field, and #9 doubled to center field, each scoring one run.
Manchester University tied the game in the top of the sixth thanks to a double by Willis, and an error. The Spartans captured the lead, 12-8, in the top of the seventh after
Crystal Cooke (Richmond, Ky., Madison Southern) singled down the right field line,
Abby Eberhardt (Shelbyville, Ind., Triton Central) grounded into a fielder's choice,
Erin Singleton (Brownstown, Ind., Brownstown Central) scored after tagging up, and Rider singled to right field, each scoring one run.
Egold earned the win for Manchester University. The hurler surrendered 10 hits and five runs over five innings, striking out one and walking four.
Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) started in the circle for Manchester University. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and five runs over two innings, striking out none and walking one.
MU tallied 13 hits in the game. Willis and Rider each collected three hits for Manchester University. Eaker collected two hits for Manchester University in four at bats. Manchester University turned one double play in the game.
Game Two Manchester 0, Franklin 8 (6 Innings)
Franklin College scored six runs in the sixth inning, which helped them defeat Manchester University 10-0 on Sunday.
Julianne Gosnell (Amboy, Ind., Oak Hill) took the loss for Manchester University. The hurler went five and two-thirds innings, surrendering 10 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits, striking out none and walking two.
Kendal Rider led Manchester University with two hits in three at bats from the leadoff position.
