North Manchester, Ind. - The Manchester University Softball team hosted Earlham College in a mid-week HCAC match up right here at the MU Softball Fields.
The Spartans dropped game one but were able to bounce back and dominate in game two with a shutout win.
Game One Manchester 3, Earlham 6
The Spartans got on the board in the first inning after
Crystal Cooke (Richmond, Ky., Madison Southern) doubled, scoring one run.
Earlham made the score 4-1 in the top of the second after #12 doubled, scoring two runs,
Lizzy Willis (Yorktown, Ind., Yorktown) induced #9 to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and #12 scored after tagging up.
The Quakers extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI walks by #5 and #4.
Brionna Egold (Greencastle, Ind., South Putnam) pitched four and one-third innings in relief for Manchester University. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs while, striking out four and walking four. Willis started the game for Manchester. The hurler allowed eight hits and six runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking three..
Willis led MU with three hits in four at bats.
Lexi Goodman (Poplar, Ill., North Boone) paced the Spartans with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating four walks for the game. The Spartans didn't commit a single error in the field. Cooke had the most chances in the field with six.
Game Two Manchester 5, Earlham 0
Manchester University were triumphant over Earlham University 5-0 on Wednesday.
The Spartans got on the board in the fourth inning after
Sabrina Leonard (Fillmore, Ind., South Putnam) doubled, scoring two runs.
Abby Eberhardt (Shelbyville, Ind., Triton Central) drove in
Kali Ousley (Warsaw, Ind., Warsaw) with a SAC Fly in the 6th and the Spartans defense held strong to keep a shutout.
Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) earned the win for Manchester University. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking none.
Leonard led Manchester University with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The infielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Leonard,
Lizzy Willis, and
Alee Eaker (Lowell, Ind., Lowell) each collected two hits for Manchester. Manchester University turned one double play in the game.
