Berea, KY. - The Manchester University Baseball team traveled down to Berea, KY. to take on Berea College in a three-game series this past weekend.
The Spartans handled business and swept the Mountaineers leading to the Spartans being the first team to clinch a spot in the HCAC tournament for the 2025 season in Kokomo, Ind.
The Spartans came from behind late in game one and were able to take the lead thanks to a
Michael Dierckman (Fort Wayne, Ind., Carroll) RBI double in the 8th to secure a
5-4 victory.
In Game two, down three runs going into the 8th inning, the Spartans put the barrel on the ball to take the lead and finish the game with a
10-8 win.
Joel Kennedy (Mooreland, Ind., Monroe Central) finished the game 2-4 with a 2-run Home Run and a triple.
The Spartans wrapped things up in Game three on Sunday with an all around outstanding performance on offense and defense, winning the game
15-1 in 8 Innings.
Jared Holley (Wabash, Ind., Wabash) took the mound from the start and finished the game, only allowing one run and striking out six. First Year
Cam Bortone (South Bend, Ind,, Mishawaka Marian) dominated at the plate, finishing 4-5 with a double and two RBIs while Dierckman knocked his second home run of the year, bringing in five RBIs on the day.
The Spartans look to finish the regular season strong this weekend as they host Bluffton University in their final 3-game series before the HCAC Tournament.
