Granville, OH - After a long season and a couple of championships, the Spartans baseball season came to an end in Granville against Penn State Behrend.
The lions offense hit their stride against thw Spartans, putting up 14 runs in eight innings of play. The Spartans offense was able to get seven hits on the board against the lefty pitcher who had an outstanding performance.
Ty Layson (Fort Wayne, Ind., Homestead) took the mound for Manchester where he gave up six earned runs while striking out three.
Brett Wathen (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) came into the game in the 7th inning and shut down the lions with three strikeouts of his own and
Andrew McGray (Carmel, Ind., Carmel) came in at the bottom of the 8th and with one pitch, McGray forced a ground out on what would be Manchester's last pitch of the 2025 season.
On offense,
Joel Kennedy (Mooreland, Ind., Monroe Central) led the way for the Spartans, hitting 2-4 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored.
Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) added onto his doubles record when he followed up Kennedy's double with a moon shot double of his own to bring in the run.
The Spartans finish the season with a 29-14 overall record (15-7 HCAC), a team batting average of .335 (#16 in DIII), and the Spartans first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013 along with the HCAC Regular season and Tournament championship.
