Huntington, Ind. - Manchester battled hard on the road but came up short in a four-set loss to Huntington (25–19, 19–25, 25–23, 25–13).
The Spartans showed flashes of strong play, particularly in the second set when they controlled the tempo behind steady passing and timely swings, but consistency at the net and attack errors ultimately tilted the match in Huntington's favor.
Avery Ball led Manchester with 14 kills and 14 digs, while
Adelyn Figley chipped in 12 kills and eight digs.
Kyana Martinez added eight kills and three blocks, and setter
Morgan Howard ran the offense with 37 assists and three service aces. Defensively, Tifffany Watterson anchored the back row with a match-high 27 digs. As a team, the Spartans finished with 42 kills, 69 digs, nine blocks, and five aces, though 27 attack errors hampered their chances
Overall, the Spartans proved they can compete point-for-point with a tough Huntington squad, taking a set and pushing the third frame to the wire. The match highlighted Manchester's depth in attack and defense, but also underlined the importance of limiting errors as they move into conference play. Manchester will look to bounce back as they host the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras this Friday as well as a tri-match with Saint Mary's and North Central on Saturday.
