Spartans' Rally Comes Up Short in Franklin

Franklin, Ind. - Manchester hung around all night on the road, but a 10-point halftime hole was too much to overcome in a 76-70 HCAC loss at Franklin on Wednesday.

The Spartans trailed 40-30 at the break, then put together a strong second half by outscoring the Grizzlies 40-36. Manchester leaned heavily on its perimeter shooting to climb back in it, knocking down 12 three-pointers and shooting 12-of-28 from deep. Ty Lynas led the way with 25 points on 10-of-21 shooting (4-of-10 from three) and six rebounds, while Ladarius Wallace added 15 points with four triples and a team-high five assists. Talan Boehler provided a big lift off the bench with nine points on three threes, and Clay McCorkle chipped in seven points and four assists.

Manchester's rally tightened late. After cutting it to 64-62 at the 5:09 mark, Franklin answered with a key three from Cooper Matthews to push the margin back out. Wallace drilled a three to make it 69-65 with 3:52 left, but Dylan Beverly responded with another big triple to extend the lead. Boehler's third three of the night pulled Manchester within 74-70 with 1:43 remaining, yet the Spartans couldn't get the final stop-and-score sequence, and Franklin sealed it at the line in the final minute.

Statistically, Manchester won the rebounding battle 34-30 and grabbed 11 offensive boards, but free throws and turnovers swung the difference. The Spartans went 4-of-10 at the stripe, while Franklin finished 10-of-15 and also turned 12 Manchester turnovers into 15 points.
