Anderson, Ind. - Manchester Women's Basketball ran into a hot-shooting Anderson team Wednesday night, falling 71-57 at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. The Spartans battled early with energy on the glass and in the passing lanes, but a cold stretch across the middle quarters proved costly as Anderson created separation behind 10 made threes.
Manchester opened by attacking inside (26 points in the paint for the game) and forcing mistakes with 11 steals, yet Anderson's perimeter shooting helped the Ravens take a 19-13 lead after one. The Spartans steadied themselves in the second quarter, winning the period 12-10 and trimming the deficit to 29-25 at halftime behind a strong interior presence from Hannah Holmes and efficient finishing from Madysen Rees.
The swing came in the third. Anderson outscored Manchester 21-10, turning defense into quick offense and re-establishing control at 50-35 heading to the fourth. Manchester kept fighting—outscoring the Ravens 22-21 in the final quarter and getting 30 bench points on the night—but couldn't fully erase the gap.
Holmes led Manchester with 11 points and six rebounds, while Kayla Gibbs added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting (1-for-3 from three). Kendal Rider scored nine points and sparked the defense with four steals and two assists, and Maddi Smith chipped in nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals in just 17 minutes. Rees was perfect from the field (3-for-3) for six points, and Clair Klinger knocked down two threes.
As a team, Manchester shot 20-of-59 from the floor and 3-of-23 from deep, went 14-of-22 at the line, and held a 38-42 rebounding margin while committing 21 turnovers.
