Bluffton, OH - Manchester wrapped up its HCAC road series at Bluffton with three tightly contested games that featured strong pitching, extended battles and plenty of late-inning drama.
The opener turned into a marathon, as the two teams needed 15 innings before Bluffton finally pulled out a 4–3 walk-off victory. Manchester clawed back late, scoring twice in the ninth to force extra innings after falling behind 3–1. The Spartans were paced offensively by Max Horner, who finished with four hits and drove in a run, while Joel Kennedy added a pair of hits, an RBI and two stolen bases. On the mound, Ty Layson delivered a strong start by working 9.1 innings and allowing three earned runs, and Quinton Black provided five solid innings of relief. Manchester finished with 11 hits but left 17 runners on base as both teams traded zeroes from the 10th through the 14th before Bluffton pushed across the winning run in the 15th.
In game two, Manchester battled once more in a low-scoring affair, eventually coming out on top. After the teams were locked in a pitchers' duel through the middle innings, Manchester pulled even late, with timely hitting in the later frames to claim a narrow win. The Spartans continued to show resilience at the plate, with Horner and Kennedy once again setting the tone offensively, while the Manchester staff kept the Beavers in check for most of the contest.
The series finale saw Manchester flip the script in dominant fashion, breaking things open late to secure a 17–1 conference win. The Spartans scored in six different innings, highlighted by a 10-run outburst in the eighth that put the game out of reach. Horner led the offensive charge again, driving in five runs with three hits, while Alex Westfield recorded four hits and four RBI. The Manchester pitching staff was equally sharp, limiting Bluffton to five hits, including a complete-game effort from the starter who allowed just one run over eight innings.
Overall, Manchester showed toughness throughout the weekend, competing pitch-for-pitch and inning-for-inning in all three games. Despite coming up short in two close contests, the Spartans demonstrated depth on the mound, consistent table-setting at the top of the lineup, and the ability to respond in pressure situations as the HCAC series progressed.
