NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Manchester defeated Kuyper 8-0 on Saturday. Manchester finished with a 32-3 shot advantage, put 16 shots on goal and held Kuyper without a shot on goal.
Manchester turned early activity into the game's opening goal, building a stretch of six shots and two corner kicks before
Noah Junchaya scored.
Fola Afolayan and
Logan Zilz added goals before the break to move Manchester into a three-goal position, with Junchaya and
Quinn McKinley supplying assists on those finishes. Manchester kept generating chances after halftime, putting together an 11-action stretch that included seven shots and four corners while the score remained 3-0.
The second-half scoring continued through Afolayan,
Aiden Bryant,
Seun Adekola,
Grant Gerber and Zilz, including late goals from Gerber and Zilz in a short span. Zilz finished with two goals and an assist, and Afolayan added two goals as Manchester's attack spread production across several scorers.
Will Martin played the full 90 minutes in goal and recorded the shutout without needing a save.
Manchester put together a three-goal first half, with Junchaya opening the scoring in the 13th minute before assisting Afolayan's goal at 25:59. Earlier, Manchester pressed Kuyper with repeated chances, including two saved shots by
Jack Barnes, a Barnes attempt off the woodwork, two corner kicks and additional looks from
Axel Bonilla and Bryant. Junchaya's goal made it 1-0, and Manchester continued to create chances before Afolayan finished from Junchaya's assist to make it 2-0. Zilz added another goal at 30:13 off McKinley's assist, and Manchester finished the half with more late pressure, including a McKinley shot saved and two corner kicks, to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
After halftime, Manchester added five goals, turning a 3-0 advantage into an 8-0 win. Earlier, Manchester kept pressure on Kuyper with six shots and four corner kicks from the 54th through 60th minutes, including saved attempts by Bonilla and Bryant. Afolayan scored in the 64th minute off a Zilz assist to make it 4-0, and Bryant followed in the 73rd from
Leonardo Garcia Nonato for a 5-0 lead. After a physical stretch that included three Kuyper yellow cards, Manchester finished with three goals in less than three minutes, as Adekola scored in the 80th, Gerber in the 82nd and Zilz off Gerber's assist at 82:05 to close the scoring at 8-0.
Zilz scored twice and added an assist for five points. Afolayan tallied two goals and put all three of his shots on goal. Junchaya recorded a goal and an assist, with his goal marked as the game-winner. Bryant scored and led Manchester with five shots, including two on goal.
Manchester moves to 3-4-0 overall.
