He joined the Spartan coach staff beginning with the 2016 season. A 2013 graduate of Manchester University with a major in psychology, McAfee was a key pitcher on the 2013 team that finished with a record of 39-7, appearing in eleven games out of the bullpen.

McAfee also serves the university as a campus safety officer.
