Andrew Young completed his second season as an assistant football coach at Manchester in 2022. Coach Young works with the Spartan safeties.
During his second year on the Black and Gold sidelines, four of the seven Spartans who earned All-HCAC honors at the end of the season were defensive players. senior safety Josue Castro was named to the All-HCAC Second Team after finishing the year with 33 solo tackles and 26 assists to total 58 tackles in 10 games played. Haylee Smith also earned Honorable Mention All-HCAC honors after finishing the season with 25 solo tackles in 9 games played. Smith also led the Black and Gold with 4 interceptions this fall. During the 2023 campaign, the Spartan defensive came away with 10 interceptions with eight forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.
The Manchester defense showed significant improvement during the Fall 2021 campaign. Seven of the 10 Spartans who earned All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors at the end of the season came on defensive side of the ball. Cornerback Jaquan Walker and linebacker Jalen Masden were named Second Team All-HCAC. Coach Young's safeties unit led the defense in both interceptions with seven and takeaways on the season - including a 70-yard interception that was returned for a touchdown. Coach Young's position group also produced a pair of the Top 5 tacklers for Manchester in 2021. The Spartan defense also produced three HCAC Defensive Player of the Week Awards.
Young arrived in North Manchester after coaching stops at Sam Houston State in Texas and Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota. During his time at Sam Houston State, Young served as a volunteer graduate intern, assisting the Bearkats staff in managing individual drills and skill development for the safeties unit.
The Bearkats went a perfect 10-0 during the 2020-21 year, claiming the FCS National Championship.
Prior to his work at Sam Houston State, Coach Young spent the 2017 season as a wide receivers coach at Gustavus Adolphus College.
A native of Baytown, Texas, Andrew played collegiately at NCAA Division III-member Southwestern University located in Georgetown, Texas. Young played in 13 games during his college career. The Pirates won a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) title during his senior year in 2016.
Young graduated from Southwestern with a bachelor's degree in history in 2017. He earned a master's degree in digital media from Sam Houston State in 2021.
