Walter Raines returned to  the Manchester football coaching staff in August 2020. The 2024season will mark his fifth  season back on the Black and Gold sidelines and seventh overall as an assistant football coach at Manchester University with his first stint coming in 2005-06 seasons under Coach Shannon Griffith.

As an assistant coach at Manchester, Raines has coached running backs, tight ends, and wide receivers. He has seen four of his players be awarded All HCAC honors in that time: Harrington Greer (1st team Spring 2021, HM Fall 2021), Carmelo Gurley (2nd team Fall 2021), David Smith (1st team 2022), Duriel Moss (HM 2023)

In between stints at Manchester, Raines spent  12 seasons coaching high school football in the SAC in Fort Wayne, IN. He had stops at Wayne, Northrop, and South Side. Throughout those seasons he coached a number of all conference players on the offensive side of the ball highlighted by 2010 1st team 5A All State WR, Marcus Jones at Northrop HS. 
Raines earned a bachelor’s degree from Miles College in 2005 majoring in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. He later added secondary math certification to his teaching license.  From 2000-03 Raines played on the Golden Bear football team where his senior class left with what was at the time the winning est career record and only back to back winning seasons in school history. 

Coach Raines  his wife Andrea and two sons CJ and Carter reside in Fort Wayne.
