
Ivan Matos completed his sixth year at the helm of the Manchester volleyball program in 2023.
In his sixth year at Manchester, Matos led the Spartans to a 17-10 season including four All HCAC recognitions. Headlining the All-HCAC awards with a First Team selection was Joy Maze and Carley Camp. Maze led Manchester with 321 kills this fall while adding 33 aces, 225 digs, and 34 total blocks. Camp led the Spartans with 15 solo blocks while adding 176 kills with a .261 hitting percentage this season.Sophomore outside hitter Avery Ball picked up All-HCAC Second Team honors on. Ball tallied 225 kills and led the team with 40 service aces. She also had 256 digs and 22 total blocks this fall.
Rounding out the All-HCAC awards with an HCAC All-Freshman Team selection Tiffany Watterson. Watterson appeared in 25 matches during her first season with the Black and Gold. Watterson led Manchester with 413 digs, averaging 4.49 digs per set. She also added 80 assists and 25 aces this season.
During his fifth year at the helm of the Manchester volleyball program, the Black and Gold picked up 14 regular season wins. A trio of Spartans earned Second Team All-HCAC recognition, including Avery Ball, Carley Camp, and Joy Maze. Sophomore Brionna Egold was named to the Christopher M. Ragsdale Sportmanship team.
Coach Matos led a 10-win improvement in 2021, while leading his much-improved squad to its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament berth since 2016. Manchester finished 6th in the HCAC Standings and Matos' program produced five All-HCAC players. Senior Samantha Campbell earned First Team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors. Campbell ended her Manchester career ranked in the program's top 10 in solo blocks (54 - 9th), assisted blocks (132 - 6th) and total blocks (186 - 8th). Additionally, Halle Planck, Helaina Walters, and Erika Kramer all earned Honorable Mention All-HCAC recognition. Carley Camp was named to the HCAC All-Freshman Team.
At the conclusion of the 2020-21 season, both Halle Planck and Samantha Campbell earned Honorable Mention All-HCAC honors. Planck ended her sophomore season with 119 kills, a 2.29 kills per set average, and a .165 hitting percentage. Campbell ended her junior season with 130 kills, while her 49 total blocks 3rd in the HCAC. Campbell led Manchester with a .201 hitting percentage.
During the 2019 campaign, newcomer Halle Planck finished 8th the HCAC in kills. Planck was named First Team All-HCAC and was also named to the HCAC All-Freshman Team. Additionally, senior libero Anna Marie Lawrie finished her Black & Gold career ranked 3rd in program history in digs with 1,552 while setter Lauren Gandhi became just the eighth Spartan to cross over the 1,000 career assist threshold. Gandhi ended her Black & Gold career ranked 8th all-time in school history with 1,290 assists.
During the 2018 campaign, Matos developed a pair All-HCAC honorees in senior right side hitter Haley Duncan (First Team) and libero Anna Marie Lawrie (Hon. Mention).
In the classroom, 27 Spartans have gone on to earn Academic All-HCAC honors during Matos' tenure as head coach.
Matos’ previous coaching experience includes serving as the graduate assistant men’s volleyball coach at his alma mater, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW – now Purdue Fort Wayne, PFW). During his season as a graduate assistant with the Mastodons in 2016, Matos coached two All-Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association players in Andrew Sellan and Luis Beltran.
Active in the Fort Wayne community, Ivan has served as the head coach of Fort Wayne's Empowered Volleyball Academy 18s Elite Red team since 2017.
Collegiately, Matos played four seasons at IPFW from 2009-2012. He was a three-time All-MIVA Academic Team selection. During his senior season, Matos was named First Team All-MIVA and earned Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week honors one time. He has been a member of the United States' Volleyball's Double-A and Open Division runner-ups teams and has played professionally in Puerto Rico.
Matos earned a bachelor's degree in public policy with a concentration in health services administration from IPFW in 2012. He earned a master’s degree in public affairs with a concentration in health services administration from IPFW in 2016.
