The duo of senior Alli Heeter (Nappanee, Ind.) and junior Ashley McClintic (Wakarusa, Ind.) moved to 5-0 on the season with an 8-6 win at the number two slot, while the number one pairing of juniors Kara Gilley (Plymouth, Ind.) and Brandy Leeper (Bremen, Ind.) claimed an 8-5 win to lead the women's squad. Heeter also remained unbeaten in singles play, while Gilley and Leeper added straight-set wins to secure the 5-4 team decision.
On the men's side of the ledger, the singles' trio of Collin Bishopp, junior Miro Arguijo (Corpus Christi, Texas) and sophomore Phil Truitt (Huntington, Ind.) sparked a 5-4 victory. Bishopp battled past USF's Tate Dishman with a first set tiebreaker highlighting the match, while Arguijo and Truitt both used superbreakers to claim wins at number four and number five.
Manchester University's women's team puts a three-dual win streak on the line with a pivotal Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference double-dual at Franklin College Saturday, Sept. 30. The Spartans (4-2, 2-2 HCAC) face the league unbeaten Lady Grizzlies at 9 a.m. and Bluffton University of Ohio at 3 p.m. MU's men (1-1) close their brief fall slate with a trip to Bethel College of Indiana Oct. 11.
