TERRE HAUTE, IND. –Manchester University resumed Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday, April 12. against the conference leading Engineers of Rose-Hulman.
Juniors Phil Truitt (Huntington, Ind.) and Alex Winger (Warsaw, Ind.), highlighted the dual with a close doubles match in the two spot. The Spartans (0-10 overall, 0-4 HCAC) would go on to fall to their opponents 9-0.
Truitt and Winger pushed opponents Matt Conrad and Nate Moore to a tight match, attempting to avoid the 3-0 Engineer doubles sweep, but eventually fell short in an 8-6 loss. Sophomore Matt Buncich (Goshen, Ind.) and freshman Trevor Jones (Connersville, Ind.) also made a run at gaining a doubles victory. The three doubles pair pushed Rose's Ray Montgomery and Erin Miller to a tough 8-4 final to conclude the sweep.
The Black and Gold return home Wednesday April 16. An afternoon match-up with Anderson University begins at 4:00 p.m.
