Bethel sidesteps Black and Gold

MISHAWAKA, IND. – Manchester University's brief three-dual fall schedule opened with a tussle at Bethel College Thursday, Sept. 11.

Senior Alex Winger (Warsaw, Ind.), who was the second-leading returner in regards to singles' wins from 2013-14, picked up where he left off, upending the Pilots' Mason Heller in straight sets. The Black and Gold's other team point came from the freshman doubles' combination of Isaac Collins (Alexandria, Ind.) and Spencer Thomas (Yorktown, Ind.). They claimed a topsy-turvy battle at number three against BC's Chad VanDosen and Luke Hoffman 9-8.

Sophomore Matt Buncich (Goshen, Ind.) just missed picking up a third point for Coach Eric Christiansen's squad. He claimed the first set against Brad Foster 6-4, but the Pilots' number six singles player rallied with a 7-5 second set decision and 10-4 decision in the superbreak.

MU continues its fall schedule Thursday, Sept. 18, with a dual at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind.
