NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A quick start highlighted Manchester University's home dual with No. 23-ranked Olivet College of Michigan Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The Spartans, despite slipping to 0-7 with a 33-13 loss at the hand of the Comets, got the home crowd inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena to its feet with freshman 125-pounder Ruben Rodriguez, Jr. (Hammond, Ind.) getting an escape in overtime for a 5-4 decision and freshman 133-pounder Chase Wilson (Peru, Ind.) picking up a fall for a 9-0 team lead.

Olivet, concluding its dual season at 7-12, rebounded with seven successive victories. The skein included two falls and two forfeits for 24 key team points. MU nearly halted the string before it started, as junior 141-pounder Josh Juarez (South Bend, Ind.) rallied from a 5-0 first minute deficit and fell just two points short to Curtis Blackwell in a 9-7 thriller. After the Comets added a fall and the back-to-back forfeits, sophomore 174-pounder Dylan Lauffer (Fairfield, Ohio) gave No. 6-ranked Nick Allen all he could handle. Lauffer, in search of win No. 22, jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening frame. However, Allen answered with a late reversal and took advantage of riding time to escape with a 5-4 decision.

Junior heavyweight Dustin Kult (Lafayette, Ind.) gave the Black and Gold fans something to remember at the end of the evening. Kult, improving to 12-8, turned a tight-knit 1-0 match into an 8-0 major decision with a pair of nearfalls in the third period against Ryan Steverson.

MU continues its two-dual week Friday, Jan. 23. They travel to Angola, Ind., for an in-state match-up against rival Trine University. Matches begin at 7 p.m.

NOTES: Chase Wilson, ranked second on the team in wins, moved his season mark to 13-13 with his third fall. Rodriguez, Jr., moved two wins shy of hitting .500, too, behind his 11^th victory.
