Black and Gold capture HCAC victory

HANOVER, IND. – Four of six singles decisions and two of three wins in doubles play lifted Manchester University to its initial overall and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference dual victory Saturday, April 11.

Senior Kyle Lahman (North Manchester, Ind.) earned his second successive decision at number one singles, knocking off the Panthers' Brian Davis in straight sets. Sophomore Stratton Smith (New Palestine, Ind.), competing at number two, freshman Spencer Thomas (Yorktown, Ind.), playing at number four, and freshman Garrett Bear (Indianapolis, Ind.), appearing at number six, also tallied straight-set wins.

The Spartans (1-6 overall, 1-2 HCAC) continued their impressive display in doubles action at HC's Zeddies Tennis Center. Lahman and Smith rolled to an 8-3 final at number one, while Thomas joined fellow freshman Isaac Collis (Alexandria, Ind.) for an 8-2 victory at number three.

MU, continuing a stretch of five duals in eight days, opens its home schedule Sunday, April 12. Rose-Hulman comes to North Manchester, Ind., for a 1 p.m. first serve at the school's outdoor courts.

NOTES: Lahman also increased he and his partner Smith's doubles' win skein to two straight … In other individual result news, Bear evened his singles record (1-1), while Collis and Thomas moved to within one victory of .500 (3-4).
