Men top Blue Knights; Women post 99 points

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Behind three school records produced by sophomore Guerby Ruuska (Rensselaer, Ind.) and freshman Triston Mahoney (Titusville, Fla.), Manchester University's men's swimming and diving team edged visiting Urbana University of Ohio Saturday, Nov. 12.

Ruuska, in route to individual victories in both events, set new standards in the 50-yard freestyle (22.47 seconds) and the 50-yard butterfly (25.22 seconds). Mahoney, battling the Blue Knights' Carl Henriksson to the wall, clocked a 1:53.75 which was just off Henriksson's 1:53.18 mark for the top spot.

Coach Mike Kroll's squad also received individual victories from the sophomore tandem of Quinn-Michael L'huereux (Fort Wayne, Ind.) (50-yard breaststroke – 28.59 seconds) and Anjel Clemente (Rensselaer, Ind.) (one-meter diving – 334.45 points combined in five and six attempt competitions) to help nip Urbana 96-94 in the team point column.

MU's women tallied 99 points inside the Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center. Junior Hannah Interlicchia (Porter Ranch, Calif.) swept the 50 and 100-yard breaststroke events, and fellow junior Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.), in her first attempt, claimed the one-meter diving, scoring a combined 345.65 points in five and six-dive competition. Another member of the Class of 2018, Emily Clark (Peru, Ind.), added a school record to the efforts with a 1:09.04 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Manchester University reaches the midway point of the campaign Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 20, when they join the field at Ohio Wesleyan University of Delaware, Ohio's Corbiere-Merion Invitational.
