NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Junior Stratton Smith (New Palestine, Ind.) claimed four game wins in each set of number one singles, and sophomore Isaac Collis (Alexandria, Ind.) and freshman Connor Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) did so in a set each, highlighting play for Manchester University Saturday, April 16.
Smith was defeated 6-4, 6-4 by Hanover College's Brent Barrett, while Collis battled Dakota Smith to a 6-4 defeat in the first set at number two of a 6-4, 6-1 final, and Eichenauer turned in a similar effort in the second set at No. 4 singles during a hard-fought 6-2, 6-4 loss to Andrew Fox. In doubles competition, Smith and Eichenauer gave Fox and partner Drake Clohessy a stern test at number two in an 8-4 battle.
Hanover's 9-0 team win at MU's outdoor courts dropped the Spartans to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Black and Gold continue their spring slate with league road duals at Earlham College Thursday, April 21, and Transylvania University Saturday, April 23.
