Top doubles, number four singles decisions highlight road trip

Junior Stratton Smith (New Palestine, Ind.) and sophomore Spencer Thomas (Yorktown, Ind.) took home a win against Transylvania University Saturday, April 23, and sophomore Kyler Love (North Webster, Ind.) gained a victory versus Earlham College Sunday, April 24, as part of a two-dual road trip for Manchester University.

Smith and Thomas defeated the Pioneers' Robert Albrecht and Dylan Conner in an 8-6 thriller. Love and fellow sophomore Garrett Bear (Indianapolis, Ind.) almost added another team point against TU, battling to five game wins at number three doubles.

Against the Quakers, Love, picking up his fifth singles decision of the year, besting Adam Schwartz 6-1, 6-7, 1-0. Thomas looked ready to make things difficult for number two singles' opponent Adarsh Singh, taking the first set to a 7-5 finish before Signh closed it out in straight sets with a 6-4 win in the second.

The Spartans (1-10 overall, 1-6 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) conclude the regular season Wednesday, April 27, with a trip to league rival Anderson University and hosting Mt. St. Joseph University Saturday, April 30.
