FRANKLIN, IND. – Six top five finishes highlighted Manchester University's efforts at the 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Invitational Saturday, Jan. 21.
On the men's side, as part of a 32-point team total that left Coach Mike Kroll's squad third of five teams, sophomore Anjel Clemente (Rensselaer, Ind.) resumed an impressive first season with the Black and Gold. He totaled 377.4 points in the 11-dive, one-meter competition which was good for third. MU got a pair of thirds racing-wise, too, as sophomores Guerby Ruuska (Rensselaer, Ind.) and Quinn-Michael L'Heureux (Fort Wayne, Ind.) joined freshmen Triston Mahony (Titusville, Fla.) and Christain Poole (Anderson, Ind.) to clock a 1:47.62 in the 200-yard medley relay, and Mahony, Poole, and Ruuska joined sophomore Nathan Koch (Columbia City, Ind.) to take a similar slot on the awards stand in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.07).
The Spartans' women's crew, scoring 34 points, was topped by junior diver Ally Roskos. The Elkhart, Ind., native reclaimed her HCAC 11-dive championship which she first gained in 2015 by scoring 391 points, just four off a second NCAA Division III regional qualifying mark, to out-dustance the field by nearly 48 points. A quartet of juniors Emily Clark (Peru, Ind.) and Megan Erwin (Attica, Ind.) and sophomores Catherine Brown (Bristol, Ind.) and Jamie McBride (Elkhart, Ind.) swam a 2:15.6 in the 200-yard medley relay, and Brown, Clark and Erwin came back later at the Franklin High School pool to join sophomore Mikki Goetz (Highland, Ind.) for a 4:28.56 in the 400-yard freestyle relay for a pair of fifth-place finishes.
The Spartans' pre-Ohio Athletic Conference Championships schedule concludes Saturday, Jan. 28. They host Anderson University and Olivet College of Michigan in a triangular at Strauss-Peabody Fitness and Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.
