Sophomore men's diver Anjel Clemente (Rensselaer, Ind.) and junior women's swimmer Emily Clark (Peru, Ind.) set new program standards as part of a tri-meet against Anderson University and Olivet College of Michigan Saturday, Jan. 28.
Clemente reset his old marks in each diving regimen, tallying 243.95 over six and 165.35 over five for an 11-dive total of 408.7 points. Clark's record occurred in the racing portion, as she swam a blistering 29.25 in the 50-meter butterfly. The duo helped aid 11 combined event titles for the Manchester University men's and women's teams at their home pool inside the Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center.
For the men who picked up their second and third dual wins of 2016-17, Clemente was joined by sophomore Quinn-Michael L'Heureux (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who won the 50-yard backstroke (29.1), 100-yard breaststroke (63.2) and the 100-yard individual medley (60.23); freshman Christain Poole (Anderson, Ind.) who claimed the 50-yard butterfly (25.31) and 50-yard freestyle (23.23); and sophomore Guerby Ruuska (Rensselaer, Ind.) who took home the 50-yard backstroke (27.18). On the women's side of the ledger, Clark's 50-yard butterfly championship was one of two. Sophomore Jamie McBride (Elkhart, Ind.) added the other in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.72).
The Spartans break from competition until mid-February to prepare for the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. The meet is set for Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 16-18 at Akron University's Ocasek Natatorium.
