DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Manchester Spartans were edged in a pair of wrestling matches at Defiance College this weekend. MU was edged in its first of two matches on Saturday afternoon by the Mount St. Joseph Lions by a final decision of 35-16. The Spartans were then defeated by the Defiance College Yellow Jackets by a final tally of 32-18.
Against Mount St. Joseph, Jordan Napier (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) battled to a 13-8 decision in his 149-pound bout. JaVon Phillips (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) earned a major decision victory over Chase Haehnle at 157-pounds.
Tyler Leonhard (Portland, Ind./Jay County) won a 7-2 decision at 165-pounds while Nicholas Torres (LaPortre, Ind./LaPorte) pinned MSJ's Zak Hughey in the heavyweight bout.
Against Defiance College, both Napier and Phillips pinned their opponents. Jeremiah Ford (Southport, Ind./Southport) also added a pin for the Spartans in his bout at 174-pounds.
Manchester will return to action next weekend on Satuday January 18 when the team travels to Wabash College for the Max Servies Duals. Next weekend's event will begin around 11 a.m.
