Manchester Drops HCAC Contest to Rose-Hulman

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester University women's basketball team dropped a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game to visiting Rose-Hulman in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Wednesday night. The Fightin' Engineers topped the Spartans by a final tally of 66-57.

Manchester outscored the Fightin' Engineers 32-24 through the first two periods of play on Wednesday night. Freshman Hannah Lindsey (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) scored all 10 of her points in the first two quarters which helped the Spartans build their early lead. Lindsey added four rebounds and four steals on Wednesday.

Rose-Hulman's defense was difficult to overcome in the third and fourth quarters as the Spartans were limited to just 25 total points following the intermission. RHIT outscored Manchester 42-25 in the second half.

Manchester was held to 36 percent (22-61) shooting on the evening and was 7-25 (28 percent) from downtown. The Spartans also committed 19 turnovers.

Rose-Hulman shot 46.3 percent (25-54) for the game and held a narrow 39-34 advantage in rebounding.

Sophomore Macy Miller (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll) led the Black & Gold with 15 points and five rebounds. Miranda Bieghler (Plainfield, Ind./South Putnam) added 11 points and four boards off the bench.

Manchester fell to 8-10, 5-6 HCAC. The Spartans remain firmly in the hunt of an HCAC Tournament berth entering the final month of the season. Manchester will take on Hanover College this Saturday, February 1, at 1 p.m. in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.

RHIT won consecutive games for the first time this season and improved to 4-14, 3-8 HCAC. The Fightin' Engineers will take on Mount St. Joseph at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
